Deputy premier Steven Miles says there are more than 500 Queenslanders in hospital with COVID-19, but there are no plans to again make masks compulsory.

There are 597 Queenslanders in hospitals suffering the severe impact of COVID-19, according to the latest Queensland Health statistics.

“I can say that nationally there is increasing pressure, there is a school of thought, that we should be mandating masks again,” Dr Gerrard said.“There is no change about the health advice at this stage,” he said. “As soon as that health advice changes we will let people know.” This Queensland Health graph shows the increasing number of COVID-19 cases since March 2020 to May 2022. It shows the increase in COVID infections since the borders opened as immunisation levels increased. In all, there are 30,759 active COVID-19 cases in Queensland; however, the severity of symptoms is less dramatic because 92.7 per cent of Queenslanders are now double vaccinated.
