Kinnock is descended from Welsh coal miners, and had a great piece about how he was “the first Kinnock in a thousand generations to be able to get to university.” Yeah, the “thousand generations” part is silly — there might have still been Neanderthals in Europe a thousand generations ago — but Kinnock’s spiel worked.
